Discover two of Dapoli’s most beautiful coastal destinations Anjarle Beach and Harnai Beach, located in Maharashtra’s scenic Ratnagiri district.
Anjarle Beach
Known for its peaceful, palm-lined white sand, Anjarle offers a calm seaside escape. It is home to the famous Kadyawarcha Ganpati Temple, perched on a cliff with stunning ocean views. The beach is also a nesting site for Olive Ridley turtles, supported by active conservation programs.
Harnai Beach
Harnai is known for its vibrant fish market, bustling harbor, and daily fish auctions. Visitors can explore the historic Suvarnadurg Fort by boat and enjoy activities like boating and dolphin watching.
Both beaches are located close to each other, making it easy to enjoy natural beauty, local culture, and coastal experiences in one trip.
The ancient Chandika Temple, believed to date back to the Pandavas’ era, is a sacred cave shrine rich in history and legend. According to local lore, the goddess revealed the hidden cave to the saint Jamna Puri in a dream, leading to the discovery of the partly underground svayambhu idol. Since then, the Puri family now in its 32nd generation continues to perform the temple’s rituals without accepting donations.
Located just 1 km from the Dapoli–Dabhol highway, the temple sits on a peaceful plateau surrounded by dense trees, rock formations, and a flowing stream during the monsoon. Inside the natural jet-black stone cave rests a three-foot stone idol of Goddess Chandika, covered in vermillion and adorned with weapons.
The temple draws more devotees during Navaratri, and only vegetarian offerings are allowed. It is also believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj once visited this shrine to seek the goddess’s blessings.
The ancient Keshavraj Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Keshavraj, is believed to be over 5,000 years old. Legends claim it was built overnight with divine help, while some sources trace it to the Peshwa era.
Located just 7 km from Dapoli, the temple is reached through a scenic forest trail surrounded by mango, coconut, arecanut, and cashew trees, with gentle streams flowing alongside. The nearby Keshav Kund, a natural spring emerging from a Gomukh, adds to the temple’s serene charm.
A peaceful blend of spirituality and nature, Keshavraj Temple offers a refreshing and uplifting experience for every visitor.
Suvarnadurg Fort is a historic sea fort off the coast of Harnai, built to strengthen the Maratha Empire under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Located on an island in the Arabian Sea, the fort once controlled key naval routes and served as an important Maratha naval base.
Known as the “Golden Fort,” Suvarnadurg features strong stone walls, bastions, and a strategic layout. Originally built by the Bijapur Sultanate and captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1660, it later became a shipbuilding and repair hub for the Maratha navy.
Today, the fort stands in ruins but is accessible by boat from Harnai Beach, offering stunning sea views. Nearby attractions include Kanakdurg Fort, Harnai’s lively fish market, and coastal spots like Anjarle Beach.
The Keshar Nath Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, featuring a beautifully carved stone idol holding the Shankh, Chakra, Gada, and Kamal. Surrounding the main murti are intricate carvings of Vishnu’s 10 avatars, showcasing the richness of our cultural and spiritual heritage.
A serene and sacred spot, the temple offers a peaceful glimpse into timeless craftsmanship and devotion.
